I wince when I look at my last entry, but I think it needs to remain as a reminder to something. This past month has been an incredibly soul-searching time, one that has been occasionally painful, but mostly full of joy. I can't really explain what happened, other than working on "Bye Bye Birdie" was a really beautiful spiritual epiphany and I am doing much better now than I was a month ago. I have wonderful new friends, I am open to new things and having fun, and I ended a relationship of four years because I woke up and realized neither of us were happy or wanted the same things. My anger about things has waned greatly. Lessons I learned:

My entire day, every day, is preoccupied with wondering how I can make enough money to sustain myself for a month. Usually during the year I make about $600 a month teaching an online college photography class. No matter that it brings in an average of $40K/semester to the college: I get a flat fee of $4000 a semester, or $8000 a year. That's my actual salary. On average, I make between $10-15K a year as a freelancer, unless I land a contract job. My rent is $695 a month. That means in order to make my bills (electric, phone, insurance), I need to hustle an extra $250 a month through commission work, $300 if I want to eat. I usually make up

Spring has been quite busy. I've been working almost daily on drawings, doing everything from portraits to landscapes. I started experimenting with landscape in-studio from photos, then I entered a plein-air contest a few weeks ago. My work my was not selected for a win, but it is currently hanging in the Green Drake Gallery in Millheim through July. Plein air is fun, but it has to be a nice, non-windy day. I got some wicked windburn drawing a landscape on top of a cemetery hill. I've been doing quite a bit of watercolours and enjoying that. Experimenting with gouache a little. I was asked to do the posters for the State College Community Th

hi - thanks for the fave!
thanks for the fav =)
Thanks for adding my Canned Child to your favs!
If you want to try something fun with your washes, drop a little fine salt on one when it is still wet. Alternately, try just a drop of soap - it changes the cohesion of the water.
Ooh, I hadn't thought of soap! My boyfriend has done salt washes to some interesting effects, but soap I never thought of! I'll experiment with that later! Thanks!
Happy birthday!! :D
Thank you for :+fav:ing my Sherlock art!
There is more to come....promise ;)

Have a Happy New Year
